The Sindh government under the MPO decided on Wednesday that Mohajir Quami Movement (MQM-H) chairman Afaq Ahmad would not be released from district jail Malir. A notification issued by the Home Department said that Ahmad would remain in prison for another month. Earlier, the Sindh High Court had ordered release of Ahmad on bail in Atiq-ur-Rehman’s murder case.
Ahmad was booked in the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Atiq-ur-Rehman by Nabi Bux Police in June 2009 and the trial court had rejected acquittal plea of the applicant. During proceedings, his counsel Mohammad Farooq contended before the court that evidence against the MQM-H chief had not been found and his client had nothing to do with the offence as he had been in jail since April 2004 and a case was registered on June 20, 2009.
Meanwhile, Haqiqi supporters staged a protest demonstration at the National Highway against the provincial government’s decision.
