A man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in the Kohsar police precincts, the police said on Wednesday. Police said Muhammad Iqbal, 26, son of Jafar Ali, the deceased, was a cook by profession and hailed from Baltistan. Lately he had been working as a cook at the house of a citizen named Gulam Abbass in Sector F-6/1, where he ended his life on Wednesday, when his employer and his family were away on their visit to their hometown Lahore.
Police said the initial reports suggested that the family for whom the deceased used to work for had gone to Lahore on 23 September and probably Iqbal was all by himself at the time of the incident. Police said they were informed by a neighbor named Abbas who grew suspicious because of a foul smell emanating from the house. They said Abbas broke open the house only to find deceased hanging with ceiling of kitchen.
Police moved the body to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for an autopsy. Police quoted doctors as saying that Iqbal had committed suicide at least three days ago.
