General Hospital pays tribute to nurse who died of dengue

Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Principal Dr Tariq Salahuddin said on Wednesday that nurse Asma Kanwal was a martyr and should be awarded the Tamgha-e-Shujaat, as she lost her life fighting against dengue. He was chairing a meeting in honour of Asma. Salahuddin said that the Punjab government should ensure financial assistance for the deceased’s family. LGH Medical Superintendent Dr Zafar Akram, senior professors, principal nursing school and a large number of nursing students offered their condolences during the meeting. Asma, 17, was from Kot Addu and had joined the nursing profession in January with a motivation to serve ailing humanity. Ten days ago, she caught dengue while attending patients in the dengue ward and was immediately shifted to the ICU where she expired. LGH Nursing School Principal Ishrat Ishaq said that the nurse was a well-behaved and dependable girl and her death had glorified the nurses’ white dress. Asma’s colleagues also offered fateha for her departed soul.
