Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader Abdul Salam was shot dead on Wednesday, followed by protests in Khuzdar, about 300 kilometres south of Quetta. Salam, who was also Jhalawan Bar Association vice president, was on his way home with his 12-year-old daughter when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on his car near Model School Khuzdar. The BNP leader and his daughter sustained critical injuries and were talen to nearby Civil Hospital where Salam succumbed to his injuries.
The attackers managed to flee from the crime scene. Salam’s daughter was shot in the head and was said to be in critical condition. A large number of party workers and relatives of the deceased rushed to the hospital after being informed about the incident and ransacked the office of the medical superintendent when they could not find doctors in the hospital. They chanted slogans against the government. Shops were closed down in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
