A court on Tuesday ordered the police to register a criminal case if a cognisable offence is found against some Pakistan Rangers, Sindh officers concerned in an unlawful detention case. District and Sessions Judge West Dr Qamardin Bohra was hearing a petition filed by Muhammad Azam Baloch. The petitioner had stated that on September 8 Inspector Kamran Afridi along with other Rangers officers had apprehended his son, Naveed Baloch, from the Old Golimar area and shifted him to an undisclosed location. When he approached the Rangers headquarters, the officials present there initially denied they had his son in custody but they later demanded Rs 500,000 for his release, the applicant stated.
The appellant then approached the Pak Colony police station on September 17 to lodge a complaint against the Rangers but the police refused. Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) police showed his son’s arrest and also claimed recovering illegal weapon from his possession on alleged pressure from Rangers, the petitioner added. The applicant accused the Rangers for illegally arresting his son and implicating him in a false case. He pleaded that the court directs the police to register a criminal case against the respondent Rangers officers.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered the Pak Colony station house officer (SHO) to lodge a first information report (FIR) against Inspector Kamran Afridi and other Rangers officers, if a cognizable offence was made out. The court also directed the SHO to record the applicant’s statement under Section 154 of the CrPC and lodge a criminal case accordingly.
