Foreign ministers of Pakistan and Iran vowed on Tuesday to work together for peace and stability in the region after a discussion of the prevailing situation in their talks at UN Headquarters in New York.
Pakistan’s Hina Rabbani Khar and Iran’s Aliakbar Salehi met for 30 minutes on the sidelines of 66th session of the UN General Assembly. Khar expressed gratitude for Iran’s generous support for the victims of recent floods in Pakistan and welcomed the visit of Iranian Interior Minister Mustafa Najjar to Pakistan to deliver the first consignment of relief assistance.
She also expressed Pakistan’s commitment for the completion of the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project by the stipulated deadline of December 2014 and informed her counterpart that progress on the project was well ahead of time.
The two sides also discussed ways to expedite progress on various bilateral projects including the 100 MW Gawadar power supply project as well as opening up of a new Pakistani Consulate in Bandar Abbas.
