A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday set aside the nomination papers of former MPA Pir Walayat Shah Khagga for PP-220, Sahiwal, restraining him from taking part in by-polls. The bench comprising Nasir Saeed and Manzoor Ahmad passed the verdict on a petition filed by Nazar Fatyana, a candidate who was defeated from the same constituency in the 2008 elections. The petitioner submitted that the Election Commission announced by-polls on October 13 and the officer accepted nomination papers of Khagga in violation of law. He said an LHC election tribunal on August 18 had disqualified Khagga for possessing a fake BA degree and ordered fresh elections to fill the vacant seat. He contended that Khagga could not take part in elections as he did not qualify the conditions set in articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.
LHCBA demands govt cut NATO supplies: A general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Tuesday urged the federal government to sever relations with USA and cut NATO supplies to Afghanistan to send a message to USA to mend its way of dealing with a trusted ally, which has fought USA’s war on terror for one decade. The bar session held under chair of LHCBA President Asghar Ali Gill passed several resolutions supporting the Pakistan army on countering USA’s attack on Pakistan. The general house meeting was called to ponder over a requisition tabled by Liaquat Ali Qureshi, who said that instead of depending upon USA, the government should solidify its relations with China and Iran.
