The British Council under its English programme organised a focus group on English language teacher training, which was attended by teachers from government and private schools. The aim of the focus group was to understand, consider and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead for English teaching. Most of the participants were professionals who are directly or indirectly involved with English Language teaching and therefore had an insight on the problems and issues faced by teachers.
The focus group work will enable participants to present outcomes and develop recommendations based on these outcomes. One of the key challenges discussed was how to accelerate the transition from old school English Language (EL) teaching methodologies to new, innovative teacher roles, approaches and styles which translate into better EL learning for their students thereby passing on the long-term benefits to the youngsters of today.
