Rohail Akram, two-time president of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Resident Association, joined the war with DHA administration against dengue and reiterated that DHA would never let the nightmare come next year as they were now prepared. Akram appreciates the efforts of DHA administration, specially its administrator, Brigadier Aslam Rana, for adopting effective anti-dengue measures. “It has to be acknowledged wholeheartedly that DHA administrator proved his mettle in curbing dengue, investing all his energy and effectively allocating all resources,” said Akram.
The first dengue victim was reported in DHA, while around 65 percent of the city’s dengue cases were also reported from the same area. It was a test for DHA residents, its administration and resident association to fight against the virus which claimed a number of lives, said Akram. “DHA administration left no corner unattended from fogging and spray. Empty plots, where water was reported to have stagnated, were cleared of water.
Parks and greenbelts were also spayed with WHO certified insecticides. Taking every community on board, including teachers, kids, social welfare associations and others, public awareness drive was launched to prevent people from dengue. Seminars were conducted, while screening and diagnostic centers were established on war footings. It was a war which DHA won with collective efforts and collaboration with DHA resident association,” Akram explained. Due to the personal interest of DHA Administrator Brigadier Aslam and untiring efforts of medical experts, the situation against dengue virus was improving, he said.
Brigadier Aslam visited the free dengue screening centre and diagnostic camps for dengue patients. The DHA has set up dengue camps at Masjid Chowk Phase–1, opposite Beaconhouse School, W Block, Phase–3, Sector XX Commercial Area Phase–3 and Commercial Area Phase–5. The DHA Resident Association president said that the association would hold a reception for the DHA administration soon, where the office bearers of DHA Resident Association and residents of various phases would pay tribute Brigadier Aslam for his untiring efforts against dengue.
As a result of effective awareness campaign, he said, a large number of people had been enlightened and the rush of people in hospitals had lessened. He also said that the government’s vigorous campaign changed people’s lifestyle, who were now seen keeping their surroundings clean, which played an important role in the elimination of dengue mosquito. He said all the areas had been sprayed with anti-mosquito insecticide. He appealed the media motivate people to join efforts against dengue.
