‘MDA’s development schemes to cost over Rs 8 billion’

The implementation on new and ongoing development schemes of the Malir Development Authority (MDA) would cost Rs 8.123 billion, Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussain Syed was briefed on Tuesday. The DCO was chairing a meeting of the officials concerned of the MDA, said a statement issued by the City District Government Karachi. The participants of the meeting were informed that Rs 504 million have been allocated for the execution of the development works in Shah Latif Town, Rs 3.586 billion for Taiser Town, and Rs 1.238 billion for New Malir Housing Scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the DCO directed the MDA officials to employ all available resources to ensure timely completion of all the ongoing development projects. The participants of the meeting were also informed that the MDA manages its expenses on self-finance basis and the sale of plots is its largest source of income. Around 70 development projects have been completed in Shah Latif Town, Taiser Town and New Malir Housing Scheme, which include constructing roads, laying water supply lines and sewerage network, and developing parks and green belts.
The participants were also briefed that the MDA’s plans include plotting under different categories for the low-income group in Taiser Town Scheme 45 and New Malir Housing Scheme Phase-I. The plots would be allocated in Taiser Town and New Malir Housing Scheme for construction of residential units of 80, 120, 240 and 400 square yards for government employees. Among other notables, the meeting was attended by MDA Director General Atta Muhammad Panhwar and MDA Secretary Shahabuddin Sabir.
