After saying that Washington was losing patience with Pakistan for not acting on terror groups, the US is now trying to tone down its stance. It now says America is “working constructively with Pakistan” to fight terror, foreign media reported on Tuesday.
Reportedly, the sudden conciliatory tone comes after Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar’s warning that the US risked losing its partnership with Pakistan if it continued criticising Islamabad.
The foreign minister of angry Pakistan warned that the US risked losing its partnership with Pakistan if it continued its scathing criticism of the ISI’s role in terror. She was also quoted as saying that the Haqqani group was the CIA’s “blue-eyed boy” for many years.
Khar’s rap seems to have hit the right note with the US now attempting to tone down the open spat with Pakistan. State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said his government reaffirmed American commitments to its relationship with Pakistan.
“US recognises Haqqani network an area of concern. We have identified that, we’ve raised it at the highest levels with the Pakistanis. We’ve said we need to take action against the Haqqani Network, and were committed at this point to working constructively with them to do that,” he said.
“We are addressing these concerns by working constructively with the Pakistani government,” he added.

  1. Pakistan also recognizes net works in its tribal areas as a cause for concern. They are not a part of the main stream Pakistani culture but they are there. The solution lies in working with people who understand ethnic, cultural and religious background to these issues. As said yesterday the solution lies in engaging and defusing and not charging and aggravating. US must not seek solution of such problems outside Pakistan. There are level headed individuals both in civil and military establishment who can assist in this and related matters.

  2. America is extremely untrustworthy. Pakistan must deal firmly. It does not mean we should start fighting with them. We must take a strong stand that India should be out of Afghanistan. Indians have no business to be there. If we deal firmly, the Americans will not have much choice. Since America has once again shown its true colors and they are heading towards inevitable defeat in Afghanistan, Pakistan must do its best to make them learn a lesson. Being the only super power, it is acting like a super goonda.

    • You are very harsh in your criticism of US. The mind set need to change in US. There hasn’t been a big change in the last 50 years in certain core construct around which foreign policy decision are made in US. There must be a change and for those of you who are harsh towards America I ask you how on earth are you going to make others understand your point of view if use rhetoric and not logic. Tone down please.

      • inspite of loosing 10x more civilians then US in this so called war and loosing $75billions of infrastructure, if you are asked by someone to do further more while the one who is asking to do more is doing peace talks with the same opponents themselve, would you still stay calm?

        Be logical man

  3. The infamous September 13 attack on the Ring of Steel in Kabul has brought tremors in international relations. The alliance of 10 years forged to fight terrorism is falling apart, with allies talking tough to each other, pointing fingers and frothing at the mouth. They are practically at each other’s throats. This attack has brought home a very clear message to the world; many thousand lives were lost for nothing and precious years feeding whole one generation on terror-fear have been wasted. And one trillion dollars of US taxpayers’ hard-income have gone down the drain. Today the Taliban, which the world wanted destroyed, are more formidable than 2011. Al Qaeda sitting on the fence is jubilant as it never expected to realize the desired results so easily. The US obliged al Qaeda by blindly walking into mouse trap called Afghanistan.
The attack which was carried out with operational excellence paralyzing US security apparatus in Afghanistan for 20 hours carries two distinct stamps; it was a Taliban job executed by a few fighters and it could not have been carried out so brilliantly without inside help from the US Embassy. Instead of admitting security and intelligence failure, the US has needlessly started looking for a scapegoat.
Keep it up Hina, you made us proud of you.
