KARACHI: Some 7,000 activists of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi are all set to welcome their chief Afaq Ahmed, also called Chief Sa’ab in party circles, on Tuesday (today) as the Sindh government is likely to release the Haqiqi chairman from the Karachi Central Jail.
According to sources, the Interior Ministry has issued verbal orders to the authorities concerned for releasing Afaq Ahmed instead of keeping him behind bars by imposing the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance once again.
Sources said President Asif Ali Zardari has also instructed the Sindh government to comply with the Sindh High Court’s orders and ensure safe release of the Haqiqi leader.
Sindh Prisons Minister Sadiq Ali Memon said Ahmed would be released after completing all the legal formalities.
“The government will comply with the court’s orders after the counsel of the Haqiqi chairman submits the surety amount to the authorities concerned,” Memon added.
When asked about a possible imposition of the MPO Ordinance, the minister said there is no need to impose any ban on Afaq Ahmed as the law and order situation of Karachi has improved.
Haqiqi Vice Chairman Shamshad Khan Ghauri said the legal formalities would be fulfilled by the counsels early Tuesday morning and over 7,000 party activists would welcome their beloved leader.
“Our party has thousands of workers and supporters across Pakistan. However, only activists from Karachi and Hyderabad will gather outside the central prison to receive the Haqiqi chief,” Ghauri added. AFTAB CHANNA
