President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated the government’s resolve to promote tourism in the country on the one hand and to share its benefits with the world on the other.
In his message on the eve of the World Tourism Day being observed on September 27, the president said that tourism not only highlighted the beautiful planet that we live in but also helped generate revenues.
A robust tourism industry is vital not only for healthy economic activity but also for building ties with other countries and peoples of the world, he said.
The president said that for several reasons, the full potential of tourism had not been exploited in Pakistan, adding the scourge of militancy and extremism had been a major inhibiting factor in attracting tourists.
The president was confident that the provincial governments were conscious of the need to promote tourism and were also taking steps for its promotion. He said a great threat to the promotion of tourism was the phenomenon of climate change. It had the potential of radically altering our lives, he added.
