Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters at Rescue 15 on Sunday after inspecting weapons and explosives seized from terrorists that the Haqqani network was raised and trained by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and rejected the United States claims that the network was operating from Pakistani soil.
“The network is based in Afghanistan and Pakistan has nothing to do with it,” said Malik. The interior minister said Pakistan Army was fully capable of handling any kind of situation. He said the whole nation stood behind the army. “Every segment of society is behind [the army], which came to the nation’s rescue at every trial,” he said.
He blamed Afghanistan for illegal border crossings between the two countries, saying Islamabad had been requesting Kabul for the last three years to install biometric systems at border checkposts in order to curb illegal crossings.
