Environment Protection Department (EPD) on Sunday in a surprise inspection sealed Daewoo bus service station near railway station on flouting the Punjab chief minister’s decision to keep the locality neat and clean to protect people from dengue. EPD team visited the Daewoo station and found water stagnated in old tyres in the premises of the station.
The team brought the station’s “unhealthy condition” into the notice of DS authorities and sealed the station on spot until the clearance of stagnant water and heaps of filth from the vicinity of the station which could cause dengue mosquitoes to breed. Talking to Pakistan Today, EPD Secretary Naseemur Rehaman Shah confirmed the situation and said that EPD would visit the DS on Monday (today) to check the current situation.
He said Daewoo authorities assured that they would clear their vicinity of stagnant water and garbage. In another incident, EPD took action against old tyres market at Nolakha and gave 48-hour ultimatum for drying stagnant water from old tyres and ordered officials to conduct anti-dengue spray in the market. EPD teams are conducting surprise raids in the city on daily basis.
