The University of Karachi (KU) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ehsan Trust and the Meezan Bank for the provision of merit-cum-need scholarships to students.
The MoU was signed by the pro-vice chancellors of KU, Prof Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi and Prof Dr Nasiruddin Khan, head of Ehsan Trust Dr Farhan Usmani and Meezan Bank Executive Vice-President Ahmed Ali Siddiqui. KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui was also present at the signing ceremony.
Dr Kazmi said that under the arrangement, 100 merit-cum-need scholarships would be offered to the students of KU to completely cover their studies. “The interest-free ‘Qarz-e-Hasna’ would be recoverable after the students complete their studies and get employment,” she added.
Prof Siddiqui appreciated the provision of financial assistance to talented and needy students to help complete their studies. “Bright students should not be deprived of the opportunities to acquire knowledge only because they cannot afford to do so,” he added.
Dr Usmani said that his organisation would continue assisting talented and needy students to pursue higher studies.
