Sports banned in NUML

As a clear step proving to be curbing co-curriculum activities, the administration of National University of Modern Languages (NUML) has imposed a ban on sports activities in the varsity. “The university is neither providing any sport material to students nor can we bring along our own kits,” said Ali Hussain, a student of MA English.
Interestingly, the administration has placed a notice at the main entrance of the varsity, restricting the students from bringing sports items inside the premises. “Sports items are not allowed inside the university,” reads the notice, which has resulted in regular exchange of harsh words between students and security officials at all the entry points. The university cafeteria is mercilessly overcharging the students.
“We are being provided with overcharged items but the administration is not taking action against the profiteer,” said Muhammad Zubair, a student of Mass communication Department. Talking to Pakistan Today, a group of students said the cafeteria owner was selling a somosa at Rs 15 against the market rate of Rs 8, while sandwich at Rs 50 against Rs 25 to 35 and a small cup of ice cream at Rs 40 although the rate printed by the company was Rs 30. They demanded the NUML rector to take notice of both the issues.
When contacted, the spokesman for university, while talking on the issue of sports activities, said students had been using university lawn for playing games and that’s why they were asked to refrain from the practice within the premises. He said currently, the university’s grounds were being developed and full-fledged ports would start in next couple of days. On the issue of fleecing at the cafeteria, he said: “Yes, there were some complaints regarding the overcharging, but we have taken notice of that.”
He said that the administration of cafeteria had been asked to strictly follow the rate list. The names of students have been changed to save them from any disciplinary action.
