Nine policemen accused in the Sialkot lynching incident filed appeals in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging their sentence awarded by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Gujranwala.
The policemen including the former district police officer Waqar Chohan pleaded that no police officer was present where the incident had occurred. They said that the complainant implicated them in the case with malafide intentions. Former station house officer Rana Ilyas, former assistant sub inspector Waris and former constables Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Akram, Mubarak Ali, Muhammad Yasin, Muhammad Bashir, and Naseer Ahmed were awarded three years in jail and a fine by the trial court.
While the other convicts of death sentence and life imprisonment contended that the trial court had not conducted the trial independently and fairly and was under the pressure of superior courts and media. These convicts pleaded that they were not involved in the lynching of the two brothers (Mughees and Muneeb) and prayed to set aside their conviction.
The family of Mughees and Muneeb also filed an appeal challenging the acquittal of the five accused. The trial court released them as charges were not proven by the prosecution. The appellant submitted that according to the case’s FIR, the acquitted were involved.
the deceased brothers were not given a chance to appeal,while they kept on begging them,please CHEIF JUSTICE OF PAKISTAN i request increase there punishment,make it very very severe,so that such cases will not occur in future,please i request do not let go free any culprit they should be given death penalty.
