T20 Cup 2011
Jazz, Pakistan’s leading prepaid brand, is to co-sponsor the domestic T20 tournament being organised at the National Stadium in Karachi. The initiative is part of Jazz’s commitment to providing healthy entertainment to the people of Pakistan, whilst continuing to satisfy the nation’s passion for cricket. Jazz has been at the forefront of promoting cricket in Pakistan, having conducted talent hunt activities in partnership with the PCB in the past. The T20 Cup 2011 is a continuation of Mobilink’s drive to nurture sporting talent, and is Mobilink’s contribution towards strengthening Pakistan’s domestic cricket infrastructure and developing cricket stars for the future. Vice President Marketing, Mobilink Jahanzeb Taj, said, “Mobilink has a long standing commitment to the game of cricket in Pakistan and is the official cellular service for the Pakistan Cricket Board. We are delighted to extend our support to the domestic T20 tournament, which not only brings together so much cricketing talent on to one platform, but also brings cricket back to the city of Karachi.” The T20 Cup 2011 will commence from Sunday, September 25, 2011, with all matches to be played at the National Stadium in Karachi. A total of fourteen teams will be participating in the event, across four groups, with three games held daily. The final is to take place on Sunday, October 2, 2011.

PTCL to provide ICT services to all Punjab Boards

Islamabad: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has won a bid to provide all Punjab educational boards of intermediate and secondary education with latest information and communications technology (ICT) services. According to the details, PTCL will be the exclusive provider of ICT services to all eight intermediate and secondary education boards of Punjab including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur and DG Khan boards. PTCL will provide data center based hosting services for the customized application software of the boards, countrywide IP based access to students and citizens and secure access to the hosting servers for the customer Network Operation Centers (NOCs). The ICT services provided by PTCL would enable the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) with hosting services of their dynamic websites providing fast and efficient services to their candidates and visitors with online registration and issuance of registration card, submission of online admission forms and access to the results, retrieval and printing of roll number slips, interface for affiliated schools and colleges and any other services as determined by the BISEs. Services of PTCL’s “Tier 3 certified Data Center” Lahore will form the basis for provisioning of the Managed services in a highly available infrastructure in terms of power, HVAC, security and all other Tier 3 plus data center features, together with appropriate access links to the fully redundant self-healing backbone optical fiber network, higher level of security and technology support to BISE’s critical operations. The ICT services will also provide the management and staff of all the BISEs with an efficient working environment minimizing the hassles of dealing with a large crowd of candidates and students every day and lessening the paper work.

Indus Motor inaugurates Toyota School Environment programme

Islamabad: “Indus Motor Company (IMC) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Pakistan are committed to create awareness regarding environmental conservation among the youth of Pakistan and practically mobilize them to safeguard the rapidly-polluting environment of the country so that the upcoming generations can breathe in the safe environment and fresh air.” This was stated by CEO IMC, Parvez Ghias, while inaugurating the second annual ‘Toyota School Environment Program’ at a local hotel here today. The purpose of the ‘Toyota School Environment Program’ is to engage school students and teachers in a structured awareness program to foster a sense of individual responsibility and accountability in future generations towards nature conservation. IMC CEO, Parvez Ghias and Deputy Director General WWF Pakistan, Dr. Ejaz Ahmed, formally launched the program by signing the partnership documents and vowed to support Pakistan through continuous industrial development and sustainable CSR programs while making continuous progress towards social development and environment preservation. Indus Motor Company (IMC) has launched several social projects and initiatives regarding road safety, education, environment, health, community development and response to natural calamities besides being a car manufacturer as it feels its responsibility to social development, he added. He said that The School Outreach Program along with other activities of WWF Pakistan have succeeded in stimulating the imagination of children, encouraged participation and promoted public outreach among peers and parents.

Hardee’s opens its first
outlet in Karachi

Karachi: Hardee’s, has inaugurated its first outlet in Karachi. “It is a great honor to bring Hardee’s to Karachi. We strongly feel that there is a growing demand for quality dining experience and we are confident that Hardee’s will raise the bar of QSR (Quick-service restaurant) dining in Karachi,” said Vice President Operations, Global Quick Foods Ltd. (GQFL) and Hardee’s, Tayyab Ali. Tayyab said that the international food chain has shown complete trust and believe that economic activities will boost in Karachi though the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is shying away currently, therefore, Hardee’s intends to open four outlets in the city by the end of the year 2012. He said that the company will invest around Rs. 700 million to open 10 outlets in next five years employing more than 100 locals at each outlet. According to Ramez Rizk Guirguis, Senior International Franchise Operations Manager for CKE Restaurants, Inc., the staff of the Hardee’s outlet was trained for two weeks by a group of experts that had visited Pakistan. Others, at a more senior level in the hierarchy, were flown to Dubai where they received intensive training for over two months. While highlighting the exclusive service style of Hardee’s, he said that their trained staff offers table service to avoid long queues and customers’ frustration unlike other competitors. Hardee’s also has an all-you-can-drink beverage bar where refills are unlimited, he added. The former captain of Pakistani Cricket Team, Shahid Khan Afridi, inaugurated the Hyderi outlet and conveyed his best regards to the Hardee’s team.

PM&DC clinches AMEEMR membership

Islamabad: Pakistan has been awarded the membership of AMEEMR, the regional organization of the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). This landmark achievement of the Pakistan been appreciated by medical profession in Pakistan and the world medical regulatory bodies. It is pertinent to mention here that the registrar Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, Dr. Ahmed Nadeem Akbar had advocated and presented the case of Pakistan for this membership. PM&DC is working in partnership with General Medical Council UK and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United State of America for improving of medical and dental education around the world. Dr Nadeem Akbar said, “The doctors from around the country had been anxiously waiting for this breakthrough and were very keen for the PM&DC membership with the AMEEMR. It was extremely important for employment prospects of Pakistani doctors abroad. United States Government and UK Government had made it mandatory on all regulatory bodies to be member of the WFME through the regional organizations like AMEEMR and only on fulfillment of this condition the Pakistani graduates will be eligible for USMLE after 2015.
