The murder of Fiaz Imtiaz, an accused arriving for his hearing, at the entrance of Sessions Court in the presence of police officials has yet again highlighted the city police’s efficiency. This time it was a 16-year-old boy, Rizwan, a resident of Shahdara Town, who outplayed the police officials.
Imtiaz, accused of killing Rizwan’s father and maternal uncle, was due to appear in court when Rizwan approached the session court gate just minutes before his arrival. Rizwan opened fire on Imtiaz in the presence of four policemen, killing him instantly. Rizwan was caught from the crime scene and was handed over to Islampura Police.
A total of three incidents exposing policemen’s lethargy have taken place at the Sessions Court in this year. On March 18, a man accused of murder and robbery escaped while the police was escorting him to the prison van after his hearing. The man, identified as Nasir, was accused of murder during a robbery and after being presented before judge Attiqur Rehman Bhinder, the accused managed to flee.
On May 29, two brothers, Imran alias Maani and Zeeshan alias Shaani, were shot in the courtroom while standing in the witness box. The unidentified man had emptied his pistol in the courtroom in the presence of a judge. After the killer had confirmed that both the targets had died, he strolled out of the courtroom disappearing in the vicinity of the Sessions Court. The man has still not been caught as the police remain clueless.
Moments later, Lahore CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir arrived at the scene and ordered the arrest of the on-guard policemen for negligence. In another incident, a judge was attacked by three men who were carrying razor blades. On June 19, Magistrate Kaleem Aslam Awan was attacked by three men during the hearing of a case. The three men appeared from the crowd sitting in the courtroom.
The judge along with his reader, ran to the retiring room and locked them self up in a bathroom. The attackers were later identified as Azam, Waqas and Amir.
