The federal government will provide a piece of land in Sialkot City to the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) for establishment of its regional campus there. It will help the University in providing education opportunities to the students of Sialkot region.
Federal Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said this on Saturday while talking to Allama Iqbal Open University Vice-Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi. An AIOU delegation led by Dr Sangi and comprising Barrister Feroz Jamal Kakakhel, Prof Dr Syed Abdul Siraj had called on the minister at her office.
The minister said thousands of students from areas such as Narowal, Zafarwal, Pasroor, Shakargarh, Daska and Sialkot would benefit from the AIOU local campus. She appreciated the initiatives of the Allama Iqbal Open University administration for setting up educational facilities i.e. modern information technology labs, video conferencing system. She also appreciated the Student Support Fund started by the Allama Iqbal Open University to help poor yet deserving students.
Dr Sangi briefed the minister about various ongoing projects of the university. He told the minister that around 55 percent female students enrolled with the university belonged to the rural and far flung areas of Sialkot region. Dr Sangi said the Allama Iqbal Open University would be grateful to the minister for her announcement on land allotment for the university campus in Sialkot.
