Who’s patronising who?

The Haqqani network is veritable arm of ISI, says Mullen. If this news is correct then who is responsible for different attacks on ISI headquarters, the Taliban or Mullen?

Taliban have always firmly claimed responsibilities of attacks on ISI offices in different cities of Pakistan. Now it is clear that there are two groups of Taliban: one is supported by Pakistan and to teach the lesson, one is supported by USA. This is the so-called War on Terrorism.

The US military top officer Admiral Mike Mullen has blamed that the Haqqani network is veritable arm of ISI which attacked US embassy in Kabul last week and was also involved in killing of former Afghanistan President Burhanuddin Rabbani a Tajik and Chairman of Afghan high body peace council. There are many pertinent questions:

Who are those who are opposed to peace talks and political settlement through a dialogue? Are the CIA and ISI in favour of talks? Is Haqqani network is assets of ISI?

Is the turmoil in Afghanistan is in Pakistan interest? What will happen to Afghanistan after America withdraws from it? What will Pakistan do, if the Americans were to attack North Waziristan? Can Pakistan afford to offend the US?

Will China provide the kind of aid and grants that the US is providing? Will China support us in fight against terrorism? Why are the Pakistan and US not joining hands in fight against terrorism? Is it in the best national interest of Pakistan to join hands with America or with the Haqqani network?

Since the situation is mired in uncertainty, all we can do is ask questions. The real decisions lie with the powers that be, whether they be the US government or the establishment in our own backyard.
