Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, conveying concerns over allegations leveled by the US against Pakistan with regard to the Haqqani network, made it clear that such allegations could hamper the relations between the two countries and adversely affect the war against terrorism.
Top American commander James Mattis arrived in Pakistan late Friday night for talks with key military leaders, including Kayani, amidst growing tensions between the two countries over the USA linking ISI to the Haqqani network.
According to the sources, the meeting between the two military leaders lasted for over an hour in which matters related to recent US allegations against the ISI regarding Haqqani network, bilateral relations, attacks from Afghanistan side and the deteriorating Pak-US relations were discussed in length.
Mattis arrived in Pakistan at a time when the country’s relationship with the USA is at a new low after top American defence officials accused the ISI of supporting the Haqqani network of the Taliban, blamed for two recent attacks on the US Embassy and a military base in Afghanistan.
Sources said the COAS made it clear on the US Centcom chief the series of allegations against the Pakistani security agencies for their ties with Haqqani network without any proof should come to an end as this could affect the ties between the two countries.
Gen Kayani also raised the issue of recent attacks from the Afghanistan side on Pakistani check posts and demanded an end to such attacks, sources said.
US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta has threatened unilateral action against the Haqqani network and other Pakistan-based militant groups, a statement condemned by Islamabad as contrary to the spirit of bilateral anti-terror cooperation.
Top Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Gen Kayani, have rejected allegations by US officials and asked the USA to avoid hurting the sentiments of Pakistanis.

  1. Liars are always cowards and cheats ; WMDS,Mission accomplished etc].After Osama they need another bigger Osama for the to lie to venture their execute their region plan.Zardari-Rehman Malik,MQM,ANP,ML-Choudries are most willing cohoots and boot lickers but for GEN Kasyani,ISI and our defense services. The entire mud slinging tirade against ISI is is a smokesscreen to find pretext to buy time to finf their treacherous Mir JAFFERS,Mir SADIKS to MAKE THEIR JOB EASY WHICH THEY ARE DING LIKE RECENT STATEMENTS OF ALTAF HUSSEIN.IT IS SUCH PEOPLE AND PARTIES WHOO HAVE TO FINISHED FIRST TO FRUSTRATE THE EVIL DESIGNS OF OUR ENEMIES WITHIN AND NOW OBVIOUS.

  2. General Kiyani finds it difficult whether to stay in the frying pan or jump into the fire. If he stays in the pan he will most likely get fried. Depending how far he jumps to come out of the fire a little smouldered but eventually safe.

  3. Pakistan should learn from mistakes in the past. I don’t think it has. All along it was being vehemently denied both by political leadership tha OBL was not in Pakistan. The result was humiliating both for the country and saviours. Now we have got a situation which appears to be identical with OBL fiasco. I hope they don’t call Pakistan’s bluff and may lead to another humiliating episode. I hope Americans are wrong.

The generals of the army still exhibit their instinctive arrogance and also deiance of the constitution. If the reports are correct that some corps commanders in their recent meeting were pressing for a coup d’état then it is extremely worrying and must be condemned. The military must be complelled to work under civilian leadership.

    • Pakistan will never change. Violence is an integral part of their policy relationship with others. Pakistan will never abondon this weapon. Till now US was benefeciary of this mentality of Pakistan but now it has started suffering. Now let us see what happens next.

      • You have got it absolutely wrong. Violence in not as you have said an integral part of the Pakistani society. I was borne and bred in Pakistan and work in a senior position in the UK. I am well respected and feel privileged. I love England as I love Pakistan. Things are not ideal here. Pakistan has a strong civil society and educated people are gradually taking charge of affairs. Give it some time.

    • Stop patronising Pakistan. OBL and others were the product of Afghan war. Pakistan had clearly asked US to work out post-Russia Afghan government. Sadly US did not want to be involved. US policy makers have learnt little from past and from its mistakes. Failure of politicians paved the way for Army to move in. The current politicians have shown little respect for the law. The army has exercise extreme prudence and will continue to do so.

  4. Never before in the history of PAK-US relations , since they were established back in 1947, Armed Forces chiefs of both the countries have spoken openly against each other. It shows a clear tilt in the policies of both the countries. Both can not afford to loose each other as stated by the PM.I am still hopeful that better sense will prevail on both sides and the critical issues will be solved with both sides protecting their interests.

  5. Well all this protest is a drama by Kayani. Just like they did it when Americans invaded for Osama in Abbotabad. US will keep on accusing and Kayani and politicians will keep on refusing until one day Americans will attack a few targets in Pakistan and will take out all the big guns of Al Qaida and Taliban. Americans will congratulate each other, while Pakistanis will have a ten days break, Zardari will be in France visiting his crime accomplice, Defense minister will be somewhere in US doing something. Army will be quite. Gillani will say this is the biggest achievement and it couldn't have been possible if it wasn't the PPP's government.
Long story short: Every thing is cooked and Kayani and Pasha were the supporting chefs! Just creating the thrill!

  6. What are Kayani's options, as US continues to accuse, rightfully so, ISI of complicity with anti-America terror groups? Nothing, Zilch, Nada, Zero. Are you going to cross swords with USA, your benefactor, without whose charity, you all will be starving?

An empty drum makes the loudest noise!
