Drains choked with garbage and sewage at Bara Kahu

The drainage system at Bara Khu is in a dilapidated condition as the drains in the area are choked with sewage and garbage dumped by the shopkeepers and residents while the authorities concerned are not doing anything to clear the clogged drains.
The residents of the area said that the drains along the Murree Road and Simly Road had been choked for the last few months. They said that during monsoon, the situation turned ugly amid heavy downpours and the rainwater overflowed from small drains and gutters inundated the streets and roads.
Talking to this scribe the residents expressed their anger over the indifference of the civic authorities.
Hamid Saif, a resident, alleged said the drains along the road sides and streets were not properly cleaned by the sanitation staff of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) for long periods.
He said that even after a light rain, the drains would start overflowing and inundating the roads and shops and homes situated there. Kazim, a shopkeeper, said that due to chocked drains, the rainwater inundated their shops. He said the chocked drains also a source of a foul smell causing nuisance for the shopkeepers and the motorists.
The residents demanded the authorities concerned to take immediate steps for the cleaning of the drains and gutters in the area. They said the tehsil municipal administration had failed to make adequate arrangements to drain out rainwater.
