CDA allocates Rs 0.7 million to control dengue virus

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has enhanced the capacity of Directorate of Health Services by allocating 2 million rupees in the first tranche and another Rs 0.7 million additional funds to contain dengue.
Talking to APP, Director Health Services, Dr Hassan Arooj said the civic body has taken pre-emptive measures for preventing and controlling dengue fever in the federal capital. He said CDA, Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi has directed all other formations of the Authority to assist Directorate of Health Services (DHS) by deputing 50 personnel and 20 machines from the Environment Directorate.
Additionally, five vehicles have been deputed to work with Health Directorate while five officers of the Disaster Management Cell have been posted to DHS. Giving details of spraying and fogging in various sectors, Dr Hassan said all sectors and sub sectors have been covered by fogging all streets in the city including the adjacent green areas, markets, parks, mosques etc.
Under the drive launched since March, fogging and spray activities were carried out in government accommodations, and Katchi Abadis (Slum areas), hospitals, markets, weekly bazaars, various Nullahs and streams, educational institutions, Aiwan-e-Saddar, Prime Minister House and CDA Chairman office each and in other houses. He said high risk areas are sprayed regularly, however a large number of complaints are received with frequency of 100 to 120 complaints per day.
A total number of 15 teams are deployed to cover the risk areas and complaints received, adding he said, sprays are also being conducted in localities where a dengue positive case is notified and around 25 residential accommodations. Other activities include 15 media talks for public health education, 1000 pamphlets distribution, 70 banners display, seminars and inter-personal communication.
A regular 15 minutes talk on dengue fever is being arranged with FM Radio by the Director Health.
