Given the indifferent response of the international community after an appeal to help flood victims was launched in the country, the Cabinet Division and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will jointly hold a gathering today in which Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, diplomats and heads of other humanitarian organisations will be among the participants.
“The NDMA has planned to hold a session with diplomats and international organisations on Saturday in which they will be briefed about the government’s efforts to help flood victims,” NDMA spokesman Ahmed Kamal told Pakistan Today. A source in the Prime Minister Secretariat who did not wish to be named told Pakistan Today that the government had decided to organise a gathering of diplomats and humanitarian organisations after its international help appeal failed to bring in the needed funds.
