Pakistan’s Aleem Dar, who was adjudged the best umpire for the third year running by the International Cricket Council (ICC), says the secret of his success is his honesty and his concentration.
“It is a hard job for an umpire, particularly when technology is also at work,” Aleem said.
He said the award was not only an honour for him, but also for the entire nation.
Aleem said all efforts should be made to bring international cricket back to Pakistan as the lack of it on security grounds has damaged the game within the country.
“Without international cricket, it is difficult to produce talented players and umpires,” he said.
Aleem has officiated in 67 Tests, 146 one-dayers and 18 Twenty20 matches.
He said that along with right decisions, the report of captains also mattered a lot.
“Top-ranking teams like Australia, England and South Africa want me to umpire their matches and they have trust in me,” he said.
