The United States should take care of the feelings of 180 million people of Pakistan while issuing statements or commenting on important issues, said Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday.
Talking to journalists after inaugural ceremony of three reconstructed berths at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) here, he said US was an important country and Pakistan wanted good relations with it, which should be based on mutual respect and mutual interests.
US could not live with us and without us, he said, adding that thus the United States should avoid sending ‘wrong messages’ which would affect the bilateral ties.
He said such messages would create political problems for Pakistan government to promote relations between the two the countries.
To a question, the prime minister said he had canceled his US visit only because of monitoring the relief and rehabilitation operations in the rains/flood affected areas. He reiterated Pakistan government’s policy of self-respect, economic solidarity and independence.
About the US statement regarding Haqqani network, he said Pakistan was a part of solutions in Afghanistan, and not a part of problems there.
“We have good relations with our neighbours. A sovereign, independent and prosperous Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s interest,” he added.

  1. I am so upset ! NOT I am more upset we have hyper inflation, no electricity, corruption, dengue fever, flooding in Sindh, target killings in Karachi and hell in KP. Lets focus Mr PM on the real issues.

  2. We urgently need to break our begging bowl. The only way to do it is that we start paying our taxes. If we start paying our taxes, we will have enough resources and will not need to borrow from abroad. The American ***** will not be able to blackmail us. But if we continue to evade taxes on the plea of corruption, then we will remain beggars and beggars cannot be choosers. We must start paying our taxes, refuse to be a party to corruption and thus cure our society of this menace. Shifting blame on others is no solution.

  4. US must rethink its policy of maligning Pakistan all the time. It hurts a vast majority of Pakistanis at home and abroad. Despite being told very clearly that a form of government needs to decide before Russian withdrawal it showed no interest to address it. The world would not have been in this mess if the advice given to US by Pakistan at the time was appropriately headed

  6. I have lived and worked in the West for nearly over 20 years and returned to Pakistan every year. I work in a senior position and well respected for the job I do. I believe Pakistan is misunderstood in the West, especially in the US. Likewise people in the Pakistan especially our politicians do not understand how we work here in the western world. They are still stuck in the time frame of the 1920s and 30s.

  7. Mr PM reading the comments you have received up to now it does not take long to come to this conclusion that for Pakistanis’ living in Pakistan domestic issues are most important. You need to look at your systems. First and foremost it’s sad to see that indirectly elected Presidents function as if they have been voted in to power by a broad based electorate. Appropriate steps need to be taken to address that. Secondly Mr PM please promote and develop a culture that an average citizen in your country feels respected and valued.

  8. It all begins at home. You should ask your son and other members of your family to stop issuing directives on personal pads to senior government functionaries. It was very good to see you holding impoverished children in your arms. A lot more needs to be done and I am sure you would be able to deliver if you put your mind to it. Many thanks

  10. The terrorism Pakistan is fighting today is the relic of Afghan “jihad” and the NATO invasion of Afghanistan. In both the cases, Pakistan has been doing the US bidding. By hindsight, it is now clear that terrorism was a weapon used in the first war and now in this war on terror. The parties in case of both the conflicts have changed but Pakistan’s position remains constant, of a victim of terrorism. The fact is that Pakistan is not exporting terrorism or violence. This is a bogey raised to arm-twist Pakistan into helping the US have an honorable exit from Afghanistan. Mark Grossman, the US envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan has recently said without mincing words that they want Pakistan to pressurize Haqqani Network militarily to bring them to negotiations. Americans have learned the hard way that negotiations, and not the brute force, is the only way forward to an honorable endgame. Although Haqqanis have complete control of three of Afghanistan’s provinces, Americans find it difficult, despite all the power at their disposal, to push Haqqanis to negotiations. And Haqqanis are a potent opposition to reconciliation. Americans want Pakistan to open another front against militant and plunge itself into more bloodshed and chaos.
