Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH and RC) remains committed to the free treatment of poor cancer patients but is incurring huge losses because it has to subsidise the price of dengue tests on the government’s orders. But as per the hospital’s policy, dengue patients could not be prioritised over the existing cancer patients. In this regard, the hospital conducted educational and awareness briefings and seminars and ensured that dengue tests were being done efficiently and accurately and extended the laboratory timings sufficiently as well. The hospital staff was working closely with the provincial government to monitor the outbreak by providing accurate and timely test result data.
They had also made the provision of platelets to patients easy and effective. SKMCH and RC had subsidised the price of the Complete Blood Count (CBC) test for dengue at Rs 80 since September 17. The hospital was obliged to use funds collected for the treatment of cancer patients to subsidise the cost of dengue tests. Since September 20, the hospital had extended this facility to the whole of Punjab. The hospital had been incurring losses worth over Rs 0.3 million daily.
all bakwas they are not entertaing patients for cbc test……….delivery period of reports has been incresed just to avoid the patients they are giving report after 24 hours……
