Rejecting Wikileaks revelations on the May 12 incident, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar on Thursday said his party was the major victim of the “Black Day”.
Talking to reporters at Nine-Zero, Sattar said his party was not behind the May 12 tragedy, instead 14 party workers were killed and over 50 were injured in the turmoil on the day.
He said WikiLeaks revelations were misleading and the accusations were a conspiracy against the MQM. Sattar said WikiLeaks was not an authentic source of information and the revelations were an attempt to defame his party.
He said the MQM believed in free judiciary and his party had always condemned the incident. Sattar also played a video for journalists, which he believed was evidence that his party was not involved in the May 12 bloodshed.
WikiLeaks on Tuesday quoted Sattar as saying that certain MQM workers, former president Pervez Musharraf, landlords, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and other political parties were involved in the May 12, 2007 mayhem in Karachi.
A diplomatic cable sent from Karachi to Washington on May 17, 2007 contained details of a 40-minute phone conversation between Sattar and US Consulate Charge d’ Affaires Peter Boday. During the conversation, Sattar admitted that certain members of his party were involved in the May 12 incident and the party should consider unarming its militant wing.
The MQM leader said slogans chanted in favour of Musharraf were not made on his recommendation and MQM chief Altaf Hussain had dismissed his recommendation over the issue.

  1. One by one the leaders of the MQM are liars. Once the supremo says it is a day although it may well be a night then all these goebbels' will say in a chorus that it is a day. MQM leader is supreme and these leaders like Farooq Sattar, Sabzwari, Abbas Rizvi and Waseem Akhtar are just minions.

The whole world witnessed MQM thugs brandishing guns on the fateful day of 12th May and firing at the people who gathered to greet Supreme Court Chief Justice. The benefactor of the MQM Gen Musharraf instead of condemning the carnage patted the back of Altaf Hussain and declared with utter pride that the 12th May incident was a show of strength of his followers.

The MQM leadership both in London and Karachi were in shock or in a coma after the mayhem of 12th May. The whole world came out in condemnation of Altaf Hussain. It is very unfortunate the Chief Justice did not take initiative to bring the perpetrators to the court of law. On top of that came the disastrous policy of reconciliation pursued by Asif Zardari which gave new lease of life to these thugs.Sindh province is paying the price of the policy adapted by the president of the republic.

Coming back to Farooq Sattar he is no less a liar than any other leader. Can some one believe that Hyder Abbas RIzvi denied that MQM was most peaceful organisation and that there was no militant wing in MQM. Such are these hypocrites.

  2. Wikileaks strikes yet again.Of course Farooq Sattar has to deny the truth, otherwise he'll get no mercy from his boss in London.

What he told the US Consulate Charge d’ Affaires confirms the view that the party's armed wing operates independently of the Karachi leadership and gets its instructions from abroad.

  3. MQM is the only terrorists party, which has now contradicted the Wikileaks cables, however it was pointing fingers on other politicians after the disclosure of the Leaks….

  4. 12 may ko to ye log kehte they k ch Iftikhar agar karachi aya to hum daikh le gy ya Imran khan karachi aya to hum usko airport say bahir nahi nikalne de gye….sab say bara mafia karachi ka MQM hai…
