PPP grills Shahbaz on dengue outbreak

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Friday continued its criticism of the Punjab government despite a settlement in the Punjab Assembly (PA) to extend support to the provincial government in combating dengue.
PPP Finance Secretary Senator Dr Babar Awan said that dengue was killing the poor people of Punjab and CM Shahbaz Sharif was busy in photo sessions. He lashed out that the statements of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif saying that he could not cover the failure of governance in Punjab. Awan said that fake fumigation was being done in Lahore and other cities of the province and people were being deceived with water-mixed spry. “So-called Khadem-e-Alla Shahbaz Sharif should stop cheating the poor people. Money should be spent for welfare of the poor people instead of self-projection of the chief minister” the PPP leader said. Punjab Opposition Leader Raja Riaz visited dengue patients at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and inquired about the measures taken by the hospital administration. Taking to journalists, Riaz criticised the CM and said that he had failed to control the epidemic. He termed the efforts of the Punjab CM as photo sessions and said that Shahbaz should start modeling if he was so fond of photo sessions.
The Punjab opposition leader said that the CM was responsible for killings due to dengue in Lahore and other cities of the province. He said that Shahbaz should resign due to failure of his government to control dengue, which has spread as an epidemic in the province with the death toll continuously rising. Riaz cited Dr Javed Akram’s written intimation to the administration to caution against an extreme outbreak of dengue three months ago. The PPP leader said that the Punjab government was not delivering at all and Punjab was the only “unfortunate” province, which had no health minister for the last four years.
