Inter result delay upsets BS Hons academic session

Delay in intermediate results of thousands of students can damage the first academic year of thousands of candidates seeking admissions in the various universities. After the extension of form submission deadlines, varsities will also have to delay the classes of BA/BSc (hons) first semester.
Negligence by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore has put the future of thousands of students at stake. Students whose result was on time would have to wait for the commencement of classes. The students fear that the academic session, which was scheduled to start from the first week of October, would now start after Eid-ul-Azha, wasting almost one and half months of class work. Classes in most of the varsities are starting from September 26, however first semester students are still busy with admission form submission.
Government College University (GCU) Physics Department Head Dr Hassan Amir told Pakistan Today that academics were already going through a tough time due to the spread of dengue virus and now the students would have bear the consequences of BISE’s errors. He said that varsities showed a nice gesture by extending the admission dates, however further extension could be a disaster for the students. He said that his varsity would try to start classes before Eid and the teachers would complete credit hours by taking extra classes.
University of Education (UOE) Education Division Director Dr Khalid told Pakistan Today that the delay would affect the entire academic session, however the UOE administration was working hard to ensure the commencement of classes on time. He was critical of the delay in intermediate results, saying that this would not leave a positive impact on the students who will be starting their university level studies.
Students and their parents were also concerned over BISE’s “negligence and inefficiency.” They said that the Punjab chief minister should take out some time from his dengue monitoring engagements and look into this matter as well.
A student, Zuhaib, said that although he had received his intermediate result, however a delay in the result would waste at least 45 academic days, which were extremely important in the semester system. He said that many of his friends were still waiting for the result and most of them were extremely bright. He said that if the BISE did not have the ability, they should not have used online system.
The last date for submission of admission forms has been further extended from September 22 to September 29 in the University of Engineering and Technology. The GCU administration has extended the last date for form submission for admission in BA/BSc/BCom (Hons) and BSc Electrical Engineering from September 22 to October 7, while the Punjab University has granted relaxation in the last date for submission of BS admission forms to those candidates whose intermediate result was late. The UOE administration has also extended its deadline from the September 22 to September 30. Forman Christian College has extended the admission date of its bachelors programme until October 10.
