The Centralised Admission Policy (CAP) committee has again announced Intermediate admissions to colleges that were earlier issued show-cause notices by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) for failing to produce any results in the Annual Examination 2011 of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-II. It was observed that some of these colleges lack even basic facilities. Shortage of teaching staff, absence of laboratories, and other basic facilities, resulted in poor performance of the students and zero percent results.
Taking notice of the situation, BIEK warned the institutions about the cancellation of their affiliation if they fail to present valid reasons over their performance. Speaking about the issue, BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai said the board has convened a meeting on Friday (today) and asked Sindh Colleges Director General (DG), Sindh Colleges Regional Director, Sindh Private Educational Institutions Director and Karachi Executive District Officer to review the situation.
“The meeting would discuss the reasons behind the poor performance of these colleges and the fate of hundreds of students who were granted admission to these colleges.” “The participants of the meeting will also discuss suspension of affiliation of these colleges,” Zai said, adding that the board has written to Sindh Colleges DG during formation of the placement list and questioned if the students should be placed in these poor performing colleges but no response was received.
He said the issue would settle if the government agrees to provide basic facilities in these colleges, otherwise the future of hundreds of students would be at stake.
Meanwhile, CAP Committee Chairman and Sindh Colleges DG Prof Dr Nasir Ansar claimed that the board has created a new issue. “Last year the SNE of these colleges were not approved by the government. This year the government gave them SNE and we hope that the result would improve next year.” Hinting that the directorate will not bear BIEK’s pressure, Ansar said that if they demand suspension of affiliation of these colleges, they would be affiliated with other boards.
