Police bust gang of kidnappers with released man’s help

The capital police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three kidnappers with the help of an abducted man whom the captors had released after taking Rs 2 million as ransom. Industrial Area Superintendent of Police (SP) Ishaq Warraich told reporters at a news conference here that a gang of kidnappers led by some Arshad Abbasi had abducted a man named Aftab Muhamad Abbasi in July last at gunpoint from Sector-11/4. Warraich said then the kidnappers took Aftab to the Peepal area of Katlang district of Mardan and kept him in a den.
He said the kidnappers at first demanded a ransom of Rs 7. 2 million from Aftab’s family but released him later when they were by paid Rs 2 million. “The kidnappers had threatened Aftab that they would kill him if he informed police about the kidnapping”, Warraich added. He said Aftab, however, informed police after one weak of his release that Arshad Abbasi, a resident of Sector I-8/4 along with his accomplices had kidnapped.
The SP said that on the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan and Islamabad SSP Muhammad Yousuf Malik, a special team led by him succeeded to nab the culprits. He said those arrested were later identified as Arshad Abbassi S/O Nur Akbar Abbassi, a resident of Sector F-8/1, Ahmed Raheem S/O Gul Raheem and Zaristan S/O Gulistan— both residents of Mardan. He said two of those arrested from Mardan had been transferred to Islamabad and that police also seized Rs 57 million and a motorbike from them.
Warraich said the preliminary probe revealed they had more accomplices whom the police would nab soon.
He said the police team, led by him that made the arrests possible, included Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Industrial Area Muhammad Ashraf Shah, SHO Sabzi Mandi Inspector Abdul Majeed, Sub-Inspectors (Sis) Asjad Mehmud and Ishaq and others.
He said Industrial Area and Sabzi Mandi police had busted at least four gangs of robbers and drug pushers and nabbed 56 culprits during the last one month. He said police had also seized looted items worth Rs 4 million, two cars, five mobile phones, 16 kilogram hashish, 350 grams of opium, 232 bottles of liquor, 22 pistols of 30-bore and one 12-bore gun from them.
He said the police had also arrested two men of a gang dealing in fake currency who were identified as Bashir Ahmed S/O Nazir Ahmed and Irfan Ullah S/O Ameer Ullah. He said police recovered fake currency worth Rs 185,000 from their possession.
