The Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice on Wednesday told the Lahore district coordination officer to submit a report about the progress in the computerisation of revenue department records.
The motive behind the direction was to put an end to the tampering of records by patwaris. A law officer told the court that District Coordination Officer Ahad Cheema could not appear before the court because he had to attend a meeting regarding the anti dengue fever campaign. He said that Mehboob Sarwar, a patwari, who had demanded illegal money from the petitioner to issue a mutation deed, had been terminated from service. He said complaints against patwaris could be lodged before assistant commissioners.
Chief Justice (CJ) Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry said that the assistant commissioners were also involved in corruptions and shared the bribe money with patwaris.
The CJ adjourned the hearing of the case until October 10 and directed that the DCO should inform the court about the progress in the computerisation of records. Another petitioner, Khalid Saeed, said that on a petition, a high court bench had directed the patwari of Kahna circle to issue a mutation deed without any delay, but the patwari ignored the orders.
