The Punjab government has allowed temporary registration of Dextran-40 percent, a life saving intravenous infusion of choice for dengue shock syndrome patients and the drug will be available in bulk quantity very soon, Pakistan Today has learnt. Dextran stabilised the fluid imbalances in the body during dengue fever and played a vital role in saving precious lives. The drug was unavailable in Pakistan but recently imported under guidelines of the Punjab CM at Jinnah Hospital. Now, the Punjab government had issued temporary registration of the drug considering the sensitivity of the matter and the drug will be available very soon in bulk as well, a government spokesperson said. The spokesman said that Jinnah Hospital and Children Hospital had been declared centre points from where other hospitals could get facilities related to dengue fever.
