‘Better law and order to spur economic progress in Sindh’

Better law and order would spur economic development in Sindh, including Karachi, and restore the confidence of the investors, said Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Wednesday while talking to a national security delegation, led by Maj Gen Nawaz Zaman, which called on him at the Governor’s House. The governor said the government is committed to creating an environment conducive for peace and development. He said the efforts of the police and the Rangers for restoring peace in the city have proved successful to quite an extent, but a lot is still needed to be done to achieve far-reaching results.
This is necessary for the development of the province as well as of the country, he added. Responding to a question, he said all the political parties of the country are determined not to allow criminal elements in their organisations. The parties would foster political cohesion and coordination for the promotion of democracy, he added. The governor said this year’s monsoon has caused a lot of devastation in the province, but the government is fully utilising its resources for the rescue and rehabilitation of the affected people.
“President Asif Ali Zardari is also in the province and personally monitoring the relief efforts,” he added. He said keeping in view the scale of devastation, the entire nation would have to come to the fore to help tackle this challenge. “Our spirit to this end would also persuade the international community to contribute in this task,” he added.
