No substantial headway has been made in the investigation of the deadly attack carried out outside the residence of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chaudhry Aslam Khan on Monday, Pakistan Today has learnt. According to sources, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) visited the site of the blast and, after inspection, termed the incident a ‘suicide attack’. Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies have failed to identify the vehicle used in the blast and the location from where it was loaded with heavy explosives, said sources in the police department. They said a meeting of the investigation team, chaired by South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shaukat, was held at the Darakhshan police station.
The team members included Special Investigation Unit SSP Raja Umer Khattab, South SSP Naeem Sheikh and Clifton SSP Tariq Dharejo, they added. After the meeting, the South DIG informed the media that no progress had been made in the investigation and the initial findings suggested that the incident was a suicide attack. The investigation team will meet on a daily basis to ascertain the facts behind the bomb blast that took eight precious lives, the DIG added. Sources said the investigation team visited the blast site again soon after the meeting ended and gathered a number of evidences to further their investigation.
Moreover, a team of the BDS also inspected the blast site and concluded that Research Department Explosive (RDX) was used in the suicide attack, the sources added.
The residence of SSP Khan was targeted with an unidentified vehicle loaded with RDX, resulting in the death of eight people, including a woman and her son; nearby buildings were also damaged due to the severity of the blast.
SUSPECTS DETAINED: While talking to the media at the site of the incident, Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan said five suspects have been detained from different parts of the city during the investigation into the attack on SSP Khan’s residence.
Sources said the detainees comprise activists of banned outfits arrested from Malir, Baldia, Orangi, Sohrab Goth and Manghopir.
Sources also said severed parts of a human body have been recovered from the blast site and shifted to the laboratory for a deoxyribonucleic acid test.
Footages of hidden cameras are also being checked, and the record of recently released prisoners and their visitors has been obtained as well, they added.
Wasan said the facts ascertained from the investigation would be made public after completion of the probe.
