SC rejects Karachi police performance report

The Supreme Court (SC) while rejecting performance report on police investigation under its interim decision has sought details about a number of challans and accused sent to jail by the police.
Sindh IG Wajid Ali Durrani, AIG Saud Mirza and DIGs appeared in front of judges in the Supreme Court Karachi Registry Wednesday under interim judgment of the apex court.
Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani rejected daily reports saying “We don’t want daily crimes report.” He ordered the Sindh IG that such information should be provided to the court that as to how many people were challaned, handed over to police and sent to jail and what progress made in how many cases.
Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali said such information should be provided that what steps were taken by police for eradication of crimes and what progress was made.
Justice Zahir Jamali remarked “we want this information as we want to trace out black sheep in police who don’t perform their duties”.
Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali said if investigation was conducted in right direction and cases were instituted in proper manner and accused people were convicted in two to four months then it would be real success.
Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani observed that 3 murder cases were detected during proceedings of larger bench and it was a success.
Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali remarked police should initiate action against the accused people beyond political compulsions.
