Amidst growing concerns of a dengue fever outbreak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) where the health department has confirmed 95 out of 198 suspected cases, the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) announced on Wednesday that it would to go into loggerheads with the government on the matter of the kidnap of a medical practitioner.
The PDA’s general body meeting was attended by doctors from across the province under the chair of Dr Shahsawar in Peshawar. The PDA decided to go on complete strike in all teaching hospitals in KP including Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and Ayub Medical Complex (AMC).
Dr Shahsawar said that TMO at HMC Dr Bilal was kidnapped back on July 22 this year from Peshawar but despite the lapse of two months nothing was known about his whereabouts. He said the secretary health and Inspector General special branch had also declared they were ‘unaware’ of the situation. PDA president Dr Shahsawar said Dr Bilal’s parents had intimated that kidnappers had demanded Rs 20 million as ransom money.
