Renowned Qawwal Maqbool Ahmed Sabri passed away in South Africa on Wednesday. He had a cardiac problem for last two years.
Reportedly, he was admitted to a hospital in Johannesburg a few days back.
Talking to a private TV channel, his nephew Amjad Sabri said his uncle Maqbool was a heart patient and was receiving treatment in South Africa. He further stated that his uncle was like a father to him and the family was grief stricken when they heard the news. Maqbool Sabri left behind a wife and five children
He learnt music from his father and formed a Qawwali group at the age of eleven which came was known as the Sabri Brothers. Their first recording was released in 1958 and they were the first exponents of Qawwali to the West.
