Teachers from various colleges affiliated with Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) gathered at Federal Government College for Women in G/10 on Wednesday and held a protest demonstration against non-upgradation of their pay-scales through the Time Scale Promotion Formula (TSPF). They said the teachers’ promotion was part of the teachers’ package announced last year by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
The protest was led by the office-bearers of the Federal Government Colleges Teachers Association (FGCTA) and around 130 teachers wearing black arm bands took part in the demonstration. The participants said most of them were working in BPS-16 and demanded ther government should promote them through the TSPF. The protesting teachers were holding banners with slogans in favour of their demands. Addressing the participants, FGCTA Vice President Khalida Makdoom said the college teachers would continue their protest until their demands were met. “In protest, we will observe the International Teachers Day on October 5 as a Black Day,” she announced. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Tahir Mahmood expressed his concerns over the indifferent attitude of the government towards upgradation of college teachers who had been promised by prime minister in that regard. He demanded the prime minister should honour his pledge.Earlier, an exchange of harsh words was witnessed between the principal of the G/10 college and representatives of (FGCTA) since the former was not willing to allow the college teachers to participate in protest.
