An anti-terrorism court in Gujranwala on Tuesday awarded death sentences to seven men on four counts and life imprisonment to six others besides sentencing three years’ imprisonment each to all police officials, including former Sialkot DPO Waqar Ahmad Chohan, in the Sialkot lynching case.
The court of Mushtaq Ahmad Gondal announced its verdict an hour before midnight in the court room of the Gujranwala Central Jail where proceedings had been going on since Tuesday afternoon. The judge took hours to reach a decision before announcing it in a packed court room. Those who were sentenced to death were Muhammad Amin, Jamil, Ali Raza alias Peter, Rashid, Muhammad Iqbal, Sarfraz Ahmad and Shafique alias Fauji.
Those given life imprisonment include Ateeb alias Nosha, Asghar Ali, Qaisar, Hassan Raza, Muhammad Waris and Jamshaid. The court acquitted five accused. Former DPO Chohan, SHO Rana Ilyas, ASI Muhammad Waris, constables Bashir Ahmad, Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Akram, Mubarak Ali, Naseer Ahmad and Muhammad Yasin were awarded three years in prison under 155-C of the Police Act. Teenaged brothers, Hafiz Mughees and Hafiz Muneeb, were mercilessly tortured to death by a mob in the presence of police officials in Buttar Village in Sialkot on August 15, 2010.
Sialkot Saddar police station lodged two FIRs, the first on August 15 in which the two brothers were accused of murder and robbery while the second was lodged after the video of the lynching was released by news channels leading to a suo motu notice by the Supreme Court. According to TV reports, the family of the two boys expressed satisfaction at the verdict. The boys’ grandfather said the family had been receiving threats to stop following the case but they had vowed not to let the killers escape justice.

  1. I agree to Ubaid …they must be hanged on the same place where those innocent brothes were hanged..as it was happend in the times of general Ayyub and Zia..so that it never happend next time

  2. If I am not wrong , anti terrorist courts are supposed to give verdict within 90 days. But it in this particular case, this court almost took one year for the decision, which is understandable as the number of accused were more than twenty.Facts about the case were disclosed by media and civil society reaction to this incident was spontaneous.Judiciary and the investigation agencies have played their role, now is the time to implement it after the decision by the higher courts which is yet to come.No one should be allowed to take law in his hand and NO ONE SHOULD BE ABOVE LAW, RICH OR POOR,PRESIDENT OR A PEON.

  3. Now it looks judiciary system of Pakistan heading towards right path…. Welcome Verdict. I hope it would be implemented as well !!

  4. people's comments over this court decision reflect their concern and anger over this particular incident. The whole world was shocked to see it on their TV screens. The local politicians,in their own interest, were trying hard to divert the attention of the public and investigating agencies to other side by claiming, that the boys were not innocent but habitual criminals. The honorable court must have looked into these allegations before the final decision, announced yesterday.I am hopeful that higher courts will also satisfy every one concerned. ——INSHALLAH

  5. I still can’t quite believe this has happened- justice in Pakistan! Finally something good to say about my parents homeland! Fantastic news!

  6. um no the Pakistani government is not going on the right path. they sentenced the men because NATO and other forces decided never to help Pakistan again unless they do something about the killings of the two brothers. your president Musharraf said it himself.

  7. I feel justified the same way…but just on a more global level. And Im adfraid must be judgmental too exactly 4 that reason cause,no matter the court's decision, the source for all this is far from being even discussed ..U see my friends…its not JUST the 180millions Pakistains your court decisions should be addressing this message…First of all ,it should be addressed 4 ALL MUSLIMS to hear it.As each one of 'em's JUST like you all. Both absent and PRESENT in what's being done in the name of your prophet. And i'm not even generalizing things, by merely statin' that all of U Muslims are being brought that way,fed that way, tought THAT WAY by the …ISLAMIC teachings themselves!!spending some time to read your holly book made me SHIVER with fear to what is in store for all of us,should the muslim MOB ever gained authority in a global scale!! Having all that read,i come to the conclusion that YOU Muslims will reproduce this trend, voluntarily or not, wherever you lay your feet because you are the carriers of this mind plague!! And if it isn't you, then its gonna be some of your offspring to do it and the UK bombing incident shows the BRIGHT example of it.So,no my friends .All you have to do is LOOK beyond the horizon and you're gonna watch this behavioral pattern , repeating itself by Muslims ALL OVER THE GLOBE – not just the Pakistanis!PLENTY of Violence and total disrespect of authority and institutions, literally everywhere!! And in the name of…i DON'T HONESTLY KNOW WHAT??? Mountains of rice ,fancy women afterlife 'n stuff like that ??? Ridiculous to even think, let alone conceive to justify such a DID!!!!And, all this, in an era, when man is about to reach 4the stars!!!!!!!Those fucken idiots did that awful act with…PARADISE IN THEIR FUCKIN' MINDS!!! They were KILLING 2 innocent kids… THINKING' THEY'D ACT IN THE NAME OF ALLAH 4 crying out loud!!!! Now if you cant find a single FLAW in this think pattern, then i don't know if you can find it anywhere else "my islamic friends".. Pray for your souls, all 1.5 billions of u, cause i aint' that sure what u're gonna find on the other side, when the time comes! And pray 4 Pakistan too!
