A three-member Supreme Court bench on Tuesday directed the federal and Sindh governments to submit a comprehensive report by September 22 detailing the extent to which the report of the Flood Inquiry Commission formed last year was implemented. The bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Ghulam Rabbani was hearing a complaint filed by former parliamentarian Marvi Memon, who on Monday submitted documentary evidence in court about the non-implementation of the inquiry commission’s report. Marvi appeared in the court in-person and contended that several lives could have been saved and a large-scale destruction avoided if the flood commission’s recommendations had been implemented. She said the Sindh government rejected a suggestion of the Flood Inquiry Commission due to which interior Sindh stood flooded today. She said the Sindh government’s attitude seemed dismissive on implementation of the commission’s report. The chief justice observed that the Sindh government was not serious in implementing the commission’s recommendations.
