Intermediate students staged a protest against the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore administration for failing to issue result cards to thousands of students and for mistakes in the result cards issued. A number of students, still waiting for their result, protested along with their parents outside the office of BISE Controller Examinations Syed Ejaz Hussain Naqvi. BISE administration had promised to solve the issue by September 20. Now, the administration claims that students’ issues would be resolved by Thursday.
STUDENTS FRET: Hundreds of students have been visiting the BISE’s office for getting their papers rechecked and rectify their results, so that they may seek admission in varsities and colleges. Students also feared their issue would go unheard as the government’s attention was on countering dengue virus.
Students chanted slogans against BISE administration and said their future was at stake owing to BISE officials’ bad attitude. They raised slogans against BISE’s computer section, claiming that mistakes were made due to the inability of this section.
Students said that online system just brought complications for them. Mistakes were found such as wrong pasting of photographs and some students were even shown absent in the result transcript.
The mother of a pre-medical student, Saima, while talking to Pakistan Today, claimed that her daughter attempted her exams well, however the result was not satisfactory. She said that owing to the “corrupt” prevalent examination system the poor could not seek admissions in medical universities. A uniform educational system was the solution to the problem, she added.
ADDING TO THEIR WOES: While hundreds approach BISE Lahore office for their issues, parking contractors outside the office have found an opportunity to fleece the visitors by overcharging them for parking their vehicles. The contractors are charging Rs 10 for motorbikes against the district government’s approved rates.
VARSITIES EXTEND ADMISSIONS DATE: Varsities have extended the admission dates to facilitate the students awaiting results. Last date for submission of admission forms is September 22, in most of the universities including the University of Education (UoE), Government College University (GCU) and Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), whereas September 21 is the last date at the University of Punjab.
BISE ASSURES COOPERATION: BISE Public Relations Officer Qaiser Virk hoped that the issues pertaining to late result would be sorted out soon and no student would be deprived of admissions due to the prevailing problem. He said that the board staffers have been working to facilitate the students. He also said that seven to eight thousand students had an issue of late result, which would be rectified soon.
