Fish seed stocking to eradicate dengue

On the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab for biological control over mosquito population carrying dengue virus, the Department of Fisheries has started survey of all water bodies in Lahore. Director General Fisheries Muhammad Ashraf while giving details informed that purpose of their survey was to study water quality of ponds for stocking of fish seed because fish eat mosquito larva. He said that as many as 11,000 fish seed had been released in the ponds/lakes of Lahore. He said that 3,000 fish seed in Safari Park Lake, 2,000 in Jalloo Park Lake, 500 each in Race Course Park Lake, Minar-e-Pakistan Lake, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Lake, Sabzazar, St. Marry Park Lake, Shalemar, Garden Lake, Model Town Park Lake and 1000 each in Linear Park-1 Model Town Lake I and Linear Park-2 Model Town Lake II had been released.

  1. They are on to something here they know it they are doing their best and use of fish to eradicate mosquitoes has been done for over a century in different parts of the world they should use snakeheads (fish) to eat larva
