1m houses completely demolished in recent floods: NDMA spokesman

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Spokesman Irshad Bhatti said one million houses have been completely demolished and 1.7 million acres of cash crops submerged due to recent floods.
Talking to a private news channel, he said seven million people had been affected by floods in Sindh, whereas 342 had been killed, including 77 children and 95 women. Almost half a million out of 7 million affected people had been accommodated in the temporary relief camps set up by the government, he added. He said difficulties were being faced due to absence of drainage facilities in the flood-hit areas. All departments under provincial and federal governments were administering sprays to prevent spread of diseases in the affected areas, he said, adding that they were also ensuring timely supply of food but there had been complaints about delays.
Bhatti said 18,000 females out of 120,000 pregnant females in the affected areas could suffer from other illnesses, adding that mini hospitals or health units had been setup for them and complicated cases would be referred to them.
