Parliamentary Health Secretary Dr Saeed Elahi hit back on Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s statement that the Sharif Brothers were profiteering from the Sharif Medical City and Ittefaq Hospital, saying that Khan should avoid using emergency situations for his politics and that the Sharif Medical City and Ittefaq Hospital had reserved 100 beds and 50 beds respectively to provide free treatment to dengue patients.
Elahi said both hospitals were being financed by the Sharif family and no charity had been collected to run them. He accused Khan of withdrawing money from the Shaukat Khanum Fund, adding that the Khan-run hospital was heavily charging for the blood tests. Elahi said further that Shaukat Khanam Hospital should stop earning profits for a few days and should instead help masses caught in the endemic dengue situation.
