Shahbaz inaugurates Canal Road Widening Project

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the Canal Road Widening Project near the Forman Christian (FC) College on Saturday. Addressing the ceremony, he said that widening the Canal Road was essential due to increase in traffic and the project had started in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) and would be completed in a record period of 90 days by working round the clock.
The CM said that the SC had ordered plantation of four new trees against the cutting of one tree but by fully implementing the decision of the SC, ten trees would be planted against cutting of a tree. The CM said that transparency, quality and speedy development was the hallmark of the Punjab government and all development projects were being completed as soon as possible.
He said that the project of widening the Canal Road would be unique with regard to quality and transparency and this project would also be completed within 90 days by working day and night and would provide relief to citizens. He said that the best traffic plan was made during the construction of Kalma Chowk Flyover. He said that since the Canal Road was the busiest road, therefore, a better traffic management plan than the Kalma Chowk Flyover should be made for traffic so that citizens, in general, and students and patients, in particular, should not face any inconvenience.
Shahbaz said that complete arrangements for a bus lane of international standards should be made on the Canal Road and excellent pedestrian bridges should constructed at various places. He said that eye-catching landscapes should be made along the canal so that people living in the surrounding areas of the canal and passers-by could enjoy the scenery. Punjab Communication and Works Secretary Azam Salman Khan and Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Director General Abdul Jabbar Shaheen briefed about widening the Canal Road and the horticulture plan.
Azam said that the project of widening the Canal Road would cost Rs 1.5 billion and would be completed within the stipulated time by working round the clock. He said that missing links, service roads, pedestrian bridges and bus-bays at suitable places would also be constructed.
