People will reject those opposing new province: PM

People will reject those who are against the creation of a new province, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Saturday. Reiterating the promise to create a new province for the people of southern Punjab, Gilani said it would end their sense of deprivation. Delivering his address in Saraiki language in Muzaffargarh, the prime minister said 4,620 houses would be constructed in Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Fazalpur, the areas affected by floods.
He said other ancillary facilities such as schools, mosques and health centres would also be constructed. Gilani, who was on a two-day visit to the areas affected by the floods in Sindh, lauded the Turkish assistance to Pakistan in the massive reconstruction effort and said its leadership was following the Sunnah of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in helping those in need. Gilani said he decided to stay with the people of his country who were in dire need of assistance and directed Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to instead lead the Pakistani delegation to New York to address the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He said the nation was confronting extremism and terrorism and natural calamities and would also successfully manage to go through the current phase of heavy flooding. Gilani urged the people of Pakistan to reach out to help those who were homeless and “do as much as possible so that they may be rehabilitated without any delay”. The prime minister also visited relief and medical camps set up for the people affected by the recent flooding in Sangarh and Nawabshah. In Sangarh, Gilani said despite limited resources, the government was taking all out steps to ensure provision of relief to the affected people.
He said the scale of devastation caused by heavy rains and floods in Sindh was beyond imagination, adding that he hoped that the government would overcome this challenge as philanthropists, donor agencies and international institutions were working with it. Meanwhile, Gilani reprimanded the administration of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) when during a presentation he noticed glaring discrepancies in the delivery arrangements of tents and relief goods for the flood affected people.
